spectrum live
i was disappointed when i listened to this 12" for the first time. somehow it didn't hit my taste back then. but a few months later, i dug it out again and suddenly felt differently about it. now i really like two tracks on this one- especially the original mix of "50 grand" with its dark and heavy vibe. but "stay true" is good as well and constantly growing on me.

the militia
the good, the bad and the militia on crates of ag
i got no info about this crew consisting of two mc's from jamaica, queens. the self-produced 12" was released on wild east desperado records in '95.
while "wild wild east" (which samples "the good, the bad and the ugly" by ennio morricone) is already pretty satisfying, i prefer the b-side cut "militia klick".
enjoy!

jay-sun n.y.c.
jay-sun n.y.c. aka jay-saun
another artist i can't tell you much about. apparently he is from new york and i even read somewhere that he was t-la rock's younger brother- but i don't think that's possible. also i first thought he could be the same guy (jaysaun) from boston's kreators crew, but i doubt it...plus my man ed didn't think so as well...yeah it seems that i only know things he is not.
i'm aware of these two releases:
the first one came out on dancin' hills records in the mid 90ies (i guess) and features two tracks. "ain't havin' it" gets three slightly different mixes though. production credits: fredd "rico" and jay-sun n.y.c..

ain't havin' it video (thanks to s'n's!):
there is no year indication on the second 12" as well. but i'm sure this is past-millenium. noisy boy productions put out this two-tracker. "f-widdit" features truck turner and is the better joint right here in my opinion. production credits: js one and stardom music.
Labels:

blackmajik
since the last unknown track of volume 2 just got revealed, i thought i'd do a feature about it on coa.
it's pretty hard to find info about this record. obviously this ep, which is six tracks fresh, was put out by subrosa records, a london based label. but on the other hand it was recorded and mixed in brooklyn, ny. main feature on the record of course is blackmajik, but you'll find featurings by his due(?) fam members baby beretta, e-mega, cologne gotti, divine culture, justice & ill will. i'm not sure if the mc's are or were from the uk too. it's hard to say looking at their accents.
this ep with its hardcore vibe is a real gemm and pretty overlooked in my opinion. my tracks on here are "rotten apple" and "pass the axe".
please let us know, should you have more info about these cats.
