big l / silky black - double pack 2x12"

another great project to announce!

our homie ed catto and freestyle records are about to release a 2x12" with unreleased big l and silky black material from 1991-1993.

crates of ag: where did you get these tracks from?

ed catto: showbiz and i have been working on this project for almost 1 1/2 years now. ever since we rediscovered these reels we have been working to bring this music out in an official manner which would allow all the original artists to be compensated. we had to work with big l's estate, silky black and the lone outside producer, lord finesse. we weren't sure that we were going to be able to pull it off, truthfully. if you look at the matrix numbers you will see that we had this planned but dropped other projects ahead of it while we worked out various issues.

crates of ag: how come nobody else pressed these up yet?

ed catto: no one pressed these up previously because no one had them or had even heard them besides showbiz, jazzy jay and big l. i don't think sony even had these as the full lp was never delivered to sony in the way that show intended it to be heard, they had started their tinkering by then. when the reels were rediscovered, show came to me because he had been happy with our work together on the showbiz & a.g. - broken chains 2xlp project.

crates of ag: is there more vintage stuff coming from big l or other artists in the future?

ed catto: i don't know for certain if there will be any other vintage unheard material coming from big l. so many original reels were destroyed in jazzy jay's fire. that these escaped is a minor miracle. still, you never know what could be out there or housed at another studio, etc. all i know is that this is all we have at our disposal from both artists that is fit for pressing and that is why we decided on a 2x12" format.

100X LP, EP & Mix CD

Hey Everyone:

Freestyle Records, in association with 215 Archives, is pleased to announce its newest collector's only vinyl releases by Philly's own 100X posse.

The backbone of this new round of releases is the 100X - Whom Shall I Fear? 2xLP. 18 tracks of madness, all previously unreleased, recorded between 1993-1995. If you like the Beyond The Door and/or the Fast Loot Tactics 12"s, this will be mandatory. Almost everything here is better than anything you have heard before. The 2xLP comes in a picture sleeve and is limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

Check the LP snippets here

Also, we are releasing the 100X - Early X EP featuring 6 tracks, all previously unreleased, recorded between 1988-1991 and featuring Poison Ladd S.L.R. (of Another 14U2NV and I Need Juanita) fame among others. This will shed some insight as to the roots of this massive crew and serve as an appetizer for things to come. The EP comes in a sticker sleeve and is limited to 300 copies.

Finally, we are also releasing a Mix CD by Philly's DJ Nickybutters which will include portions of 8 tracks from the 2xLP, plus MANY exclusive tracks. All tracks were recorded between 1992-1996. The CD is not limited.

For a very limited time only, supporters of Freestyle Records will have the opportunity to purchase one of each release for $100. That is one copy of the 2xLP, one copy of the EP and one CD for $100 plus shipping ($10 in the US and $20 overseas).

Afterwards, if any vinyls are leftover, these releases will be sold separately as follows:
Whom Shalll I Fear? 2xLP $100
Early X EP $75
Mix CD $15

If you want to take advantage of this special offer, I suggest pre-ordering ASAP. I expect that this project will be ready to ship at the end of June or early July, barring any delays.

Peace,
Ed Catto
