native trinity

thanks for your patience— as a staying power award i have some ill stuff for you today!

it took me some time to finally get this baby last year. braby face and r-sun from citrus hill aka orange, new jersey, build the group native trinity.

this is their debut single from '94 on d.m.s. recordings. this dope record comes packed with two tracks, which both were produced by immortal productions. i think they have at least one more record on echo, but there might be even more out there.

NATIVE TRINITY 12" '94

2. CHECK IT OUT

tree house allstars

waddup fam

mathematik and citizen kane from canada are one of the top names when it comes to indy rap from canada. over a decade passed and their debut releases still are in high demand. now, i don't want to focus on these today, but about 2.5 years ago i spotted two new records by the tree house label. with the help of france they put out an ep and three 12"s in '05 and '06. of course the tracks were newer sounding, but i felt them pretty much (and i don't like a lot of the new stuff in general).

the first release was called "headnodz ep" and features citizen kane, zaki, reign, mathematik & dubb ill, who already had his part on the reality and facts 12". all tracks are produced by the headnodz aka nick holder & kaje outta toronto.

HEADNODZ EP '05

1. CITIZEN KANE FEAT. ZAKI "LIES"
2. REIGN "HAPPY ENDINGS"
3. DUB ILL "CALL IT"
4. MATHEMATIK "AROUND"

the second record is a 12" by mathematik and has three joints on it. besides the track "around", which is featured on the headnodz ep as well, you'll get another two joints. again, productions by the headnodz and the fishermen, of which i've never heard before.

MATHEMATIK 12" '05

1. ON TOP
2. TONIGHT
3. AROUND

in my opinion both records are pretty slept on and didn't get a lot of promotion. check them out, pretty mellow stuff.

the other two 12"s i was talking about were single releases by zaki and ill dub. the zaki record is more soul than rap and the dub ill 12" i never bought.

tree house also released a 13-track strong cd longplayer with these artists in 2006.

the return of the deerhuntaz

right folks! handjob & alkuttraz teamed back together as tha deerhuntaz.

tha deerhuntaz – a crew formed a decade ago, consisted of alkuttraz (dj face off back then), hanDJob (dj dough aka r-ctic) and a few more members, who weren’t really into deejaying...but it was more of a party community anyway...nevertheless we shared the love for the same sort of music and somewhen in ‘98/’99 we released our first tape (it will NEVER get uploaded, so don’t even ask!!) which we sold at parties or to friends etc.... about 2 years later we did another tape (m.v.p.) which is still listenable to this day...somewhen in 2001 the dh’s sort of parted ways due to different jobs, education type stuff etc but we’ve always kept in touch...so finally here we go again...if we have time & motivation more mixes may follow!

not much more to say, just 64mins of indyness. means 30mins each, recorded pretty uncomplicated at our cribs.

pen powz

i have to admit, baltimore has called my attention during the last two years. there's a lot of dope records from the mid 90ies era. one of them is today's feature; the pen powz. this 12" is from '94 and is built on productions by the pen powz and baltimore's finest omar akbar aka labtekwon. the main group consists of three mc's, and gets additional vocals by labtek on "whatever". the vinyl was released on firm records. they remind me a bit of the dereliks.

yup, that's all i know. help me.

PEN POWZ 12" '94

1. PENZ-N-NEEDLEZ
2. WHATEVER? (NEXT??)
