craz

this one's for you plexxxx.

"whatcha gonna do, tell me whatcha gonna do when i step to your crew- nothing!"

i think this is the first release by craz. released on east harlem records in '94. two years later he doubled up with "some try to copy" b/w "step up" on echo with productions by frankie cutlass. i can't tell you much about that release, i never bought it. but the "whatcha gonna do" single is rough & rugged as we all like it! both cuts were produced by a guy called pacman. i can't really decide which track i prefer here but i guess it's "whatcha gonna do".

i don't know much about craz or the record label. i've only seen two more releases on east harlem by the east side hoods. looking at the catalog number there has to be at least one more record though. clear me up if you know anything else.

CRAZ 12" '94

1. WHATCHA GONNA DO
2. IT'S ON

white label action

i picked out two more white labels to get back on track again.

the first choice is one of my favorite wu-tang records ever. ol' dirty bastard's "dirty and stinkin'" is my shit. you get a funky beat with entertaining lyrics by odb, who gets support by 62 assassin of sunz of man. i think this was recorded in '94 but pressed up in '96.

"it's dirty and it's stinkin'
it's dirty and it's stinkin, baby
it's dirty and it's stinkin, yes
it's dirty and it's stinkin, i said
it's dirty and it's stinkin
it's dirty and it's stinkin'"

OL' DIRTY BASTARD FEAT. 62 ASSASSIN WHITE LABEL '96

1. DIRTY AND STINKIN'

i also have another pressing of it. looks like a uk-boot to me.

the second record i picked for today is a white label by onyx. you'll find two excellent tracks on this one. while on the a-side you get a remix of "shout" produced by pete rock, you have "most def" on the flip, which was produced by fredro starr. both track are dope! release date should be '98.

ONYX WHITE LABEL '98

1. SHOUT (PETE ROCK REMIX)
2. MOST DEF

who are you people- the review

what's up australia, austria, belgium, canada, denmark, france, germany, indonesia, new zealand, the u.s. and of course the biggest country on earth switzerland! i'm glad a lot of you guys participated in the last post and i wanted to thank you for that! it's good to know that the content of my site reaches good people out there. and even though all the readers, who haven't filled out the 5- pointer yet are still invited to accomplish that, i wanted to review your messages a little bit.

1. name & location

--> it was great to see from how many different corners y'all come from! indonesia..damn! keep spreading the word, so hopefully we can reach more people and get more information together on indy artists and releases.

2. which post on crates of ag did you like best?

--> it's funny, practically everyone had another favorite. it's hard to hit everyone's gusto everytime, but i think if you like independent records then you will like the future posts as well.

3. one record you wanted to hear for ages

--> i wrote down the stuff you guys were looking for..just keep on checking the site, there might suddenly be a post of one of your wants.

• simon, you got a soundclip from the skate-tape?
• jan, the white label lp with demo 5 on it you got is dope. the group goes by the name of science of sound, short s.o.s. they also released an ep in '95.
• eska one, just be patient, there might be a grouch post coming up sooner or later...
• grant p, i have an mp3 by epat omed called "i'm an mc" need that?

4. do you actually buy vinyl, or mp3's only?

--> i just wanted to check how many of you actually (still) buy the flat plastic. i know there's a huge mp3-community, but they don't give a damn about the artists, release or story behind it. it's impressing how much you can find out about a 12" if you have a closer look at it. it's great to see that from time to time artists even show up in the comments sections of crates of ag. or i got contacted by perverted rhymm throwwa for example...good to see that they are still out there working on new projects.

5. improvement suggestions for crates of ag. what do you miss?

--> first of all...thanks a lot for the kind words, i really appreciate that.

okay, rapidshare was of course the problem that was mentioned the most. i use rapidshare because i have a membership and use it for other stuff as well. plus i get a nice index with all the files including download counter. but i will try my best to use sharebee or zshare in the future, no problem.

someone mentioned a shoutbox...i thought about that earlier this year..it's easy to use and all... but there were two things that kept me away from it. the first thing are stupid comments by spamers or guys, who use those boxes to request tracks all day long. the second point is that people start to write their comments about posts directly in that box...and some still use the official comments section..the overview gets lost.

sean requested more international stuff...and actually this was planned too..keep on checking!

i'm glad you more or less like the graphical content of the site..actually i don't like it all anymore..but i keep on practicing. actually i just modified the layout again a little bit. crates of ag has different seasons as well...

yeah...what else can i say..the future will bring more record posts, probably another batch of sales and one day a new mixtape will show up!
thanks again for the heads up and please make my work worth the effort with questions, additional information etc...be active!

just when i thought i had all break a dawn releases in my collection, my man keith revealed another one i had never seen before.

in 1996, an artist named j dub put out this 12" with two tracks on it which both were produced by lenny "ace" marrow and roboe fitzgibbons. it's hard to get any info about this guy. it seems like he only had this appearance. but please correct me in case you know more about him.

anyway...check out the two tracks. "swingin thru ya town" is the shit here! also check out s'n's crates for a break a dawn special.

godfather don is the slave of new york!

wow..i have to admit, it's pretty difficult where to start with this one.

i'm sure a lot of you have heard about the diggers with gratitude site. besides the forum, reviews and interviews they release special projects here and then. they started off with a dope poster of record scans of independent records from '87-'92. this release got followed by their first record; exclusive material by the legend phill most chill. the ep was limited to 100 handnumbered copies with info sheet. also the first 25 copies had an outstanding customized artwork and signature by phill himself. the record had been sold out within days and is pure quality.

now as some time passed people were going crazy on the board...they created a thread guessing what the next dwg release would be. i have never seen people going nuts like that before. anyway...when RD, Chr!s and Sureshot revealed the project it was something pretty much no one expected: an ep of godfather don with unreleased material from around '93-'97!

GODFATHER DON "THE SLAVE OF NEW YORK" EP '07

1. SLAVE OF NEW YORK
2. THE ARCHITECT
3. DO I COME OFF
4. 7 DEGREES OF ELEVATION
5. INVERTED
6. COLORS OF DEATH

there were numerous unreleased joints available on mp3 by the don before, but the quality was so bad that it hurt. now find people who would go out there to track down godfather don, find his dats and tapes, find affiliates of don with material and find time and money to let the material be mastered and pressed on wax for the audience! well we've found 'em at dwg. it's impressiv how the three guys managed to get in touch with don (with help by ras at tsl) , and with the help by bobbito garcia of the stretch & bobbito show, who dug out and provided the only existing tape with slave of ny on it, they were able to put together an ep that is six track strong. the sound quality of this pressing is outstanding and unique on vinyl.

i don't want to tell you too much about godfather don...instead please visit the dwg-site for an exclusive interview and please also visit unkut, who just did a hydra/gfd special as well.

the six tracks on this ep are dope as hell. i can't tell you which track i like most, cause i think that will randomly change depending on the daily mood. again the release was limited to 150 handnumbered copies and came with an info sheet. the first 45 copies are signed and have sketches by godfather don on it.

i have to admit that this release is pretty impressive and a must-have for anyone who is collecting independent records. the record had been sold out even faster than the phill most chill one before.

all records released on dwg are limited and will never be reprinted. watch out for future projects...i think i've heard something about a side project involving cadence of raw produce...

what can i say more...i hope most of you managed to get a copy and can enjoy the vinyl spinning on your record players. and if you really need a copy of this record email vinyl at diggerswithgratitude.com - they may just have a spare copy to trade or sell.

enjoy the clips!
