twisted mind kids

why not share an album i dig for ages.

in 1996 ainzboogie and plado put out an 8 track ep on no exit records. under the name of twisted mind kids they released a record called "twisted mind state". the whole lp rides on a similar groove as the dereliks did a year before with "a turn on the wheel is worth more than a record deal". plado later on was featured on burnt batch's lp "the produce aisle", which in my opinion rocks as well.

yup, that's all i know– not much. maybe some of you guys can enlighten me a bit about this records history.

TWISTED MIND KIDS "TWISTED MIND STATE" LP '96

1. RARE FORM
2. TREMENDOUS
3. TRUE HIP HOP
4. FINAL COUNTDOWN
5. BLURRED VISION
6. WHO'S LIVIN
7. CAN'T BE BEAT
8. I FEEL YOU

a bay area classic in my opinion. enjoy!

labtekwon - the ghetto gospel ep

right, baltimore again!

This is the debut ep of labtekwon aka omar akbar. this came out in '93 on black owned records and has six productions from '92/'93 on it.

"I made my first record in 1993, the Ghetto Gospel EP. It was released on Black Owned Records. 6 songs, 23 styles. I recorded the pre-production at Scotty B's studio in 1992."

i have to admit, this record was a real random buy a few years back. but while listening to this ep again and again, it became a real grower– for me at least. the kick off with "quiet storm" is perfect and at the same time my personal favorite followed by "csd". all of these tracks come rugged and rough and have a funky note as well. a perfect mix for my gusto. make sure to check this holy grail out!

LABTEKWON "THE GHETTO GOSPEL EP" '93

1. QUIET STORM
2. PHAROAH OF THE KAYO
3. HARD 2 DA CORP
4. COPTIC JIHAD
5. CSD
6. CHOCOLATE CHIP

you also need to check out the other stuff he released. for example the 12" as csd, several cd-r only releases or the latest project called 410 pharaohs.

enjoy!

da funk

i will reveal the missing piece of my crates of ag the series vol. 5 mix today (s'up khrist).

we need to go to the depths of philly, where you can find a crew called da funk. with the help by the legendary dj miz and eyse of the tasc 4orce (now naam brigade) fame, they released this amazing 12" in '96 on bedrock productions.

"On their recent single, "Money," Da Funk weaves elements of new and old school. Crisp beats combine with smooth grooving funk guitar, pulsing keyboards and sweet soul vocalizing. "Whoever said money can't buy you happiness didn't buy the right stuff," proclaims rappers Ken and Eyse with a delivery that pumps ferocious energy into a laid-back soundscape. The thematic terrain isn't anything new, but the rapping is executed with enough percussive panache to make it seem fresh."

DA FUNK 12" '96

1. MONEY
2. YOU CAN COME AND GET DONE
3. LIFESTYLE

"lifestyle" and "money" is my shit. pretty hard to get i believe.
