master o.l.d.

seldomly seen 12" from the mo' budded entertainemt. i'm sure a few of you heard of the two gas chamber records or of izm da mad soul before, but i have never seen this record here again since i got it a few years back.

the three-tracker, which got produced by ro da phat one, features the gas chamber as well and was released on next millenium records. i don't know what year it was, but i think it came out after the mo budded phat jointz sampler. (i think he says '97 at the end of phenomenon.)

i stick to "phenomenon" and the remix of "warriors".

MASTER O.L.D. FEAT THE GAS CHAMBER 12" '9x

sick lyrical damager

100th post! let's put up something special...

in 1994/95 shazam x put out an ep with 5 cuts on freeze/ tnt records called "down for my crown". one track on there was called "scary thoughts" and featured a new face on the underground scene; sld aka sick lyrical damager from the bronx.

in '96 sld rereleased the slightly remastered "scary thoughts" on his first solo 12" on vmax entertainment. the record also had a brand new flipside track called "it's over", which was produced by shazam x as well.

SICK LYRICAL DAMAGER 12" '96

1. SCARY THOUGHTS
2. IT'S OVER

during the same year vmax put out another joint by sld, percee-p and shazam x called "respect costs more than money" which came with a picture cover.

SICK LYRICAL DAMAGER 12" '96

1. RESPECT COSTS MORE THAN MONEY (FEAT PERCEE-P)

as a result of his underground succes, sld formed his own label makin' millz entertainment, which put out the single "everybody" in '98. of course both tracks on that one were produced by shazam x again.

SICK LYRICAL DAMAGER 12" '98

1. EVERYBODY
2. MAKIN MILLZ

it had been pretty quite around sld afterwards....just until he returned with another name and concept. as lazy i, he still works with his former producer shazam x and they have even released a full length together.

i always loved sld's flow on all of these records..but i guess the "scary thoughts" 12" is still my favorite one!

self scientific

i'm pretty sure this is the debut release by l.a.'s finest self scientific. mc chace infinite and dj khalil dropped this underground bomb in '97 on s.o.l. musicworks. i'm positive that you've heard some of their later material as well.

even though i like "run the depth", my joint right here is "degrees". its dark and heavy bassline kills it! on that track you get a featuring by an mc unikron..i think this could be krondon, but i'm not sure.

SELF SCIENTIFIC 12" '97

1. RUN THE DEPTH
2. DEGREES (FEAT. LORD NAHL & UNIKRON)

white label (once again)

wow...this black moon track must be one of my favorite white label remixes ever out there.

on this record you get a remix of jeru's "ya playin' yaself" and black moon's "how many mc's". as i said before, the black moon joint is my shit right here. i love that beat and think it fits perfectly.

who produced these two tracks? dj eclipse, mighty-mi, the vinyl reanimators, stretch armstrong? i have not found an answer yet. if i remember right, i even asked eclipse once and he denied. also i think the vinyl reanimators didn't do it. was it stretch then? anyone knows more about it? date of release was '97.

cipha

what's the point in fading out the year of release during the outro of a song? i don't know, but that is exactly what cipha did. maybe a try to let dj's play the record even years later. anyway, i think they're from philly and consist of kid flex and solomon. looking at their real names they could even be brothers.

i like two of the three cuts of this 12" on sojourn records. while "rock rock on" has a calmative mellow vibe, "scared ta die" brings the drama. as i said before, the year of release is not mentioned on the label and during "rock rock on" it is censored. my guess is '96/'97.

i have not seen any other material by them.

CIPHA 12" '9x

1. ROCK ROCK ON
2. DON'T GET TOO CLOSE!
3. SCARED TA DIE

two of a kind

there are lp-tracks out there you wish to get released as 12", promo or even bootleg. and then just when you gave up the hope you find out about some scarce pressings you've never imagined to be existing. exactly that was the way i felt when i found out about these two...

elektra and sureshot entertainment released two promo's of busta rhymes and rah digga back in '00 (i guess). pressed up in good old germany.

on the busta rhymes one you'll get "enjoy da ride", "show me what you got" (both produced by jay dee) and most notably "the heist" featuring raekwon, ghostface & roc marciano of the un with an awesome production by large pro. on top you get all three instrumentals as well. stones throw used the beat of "show me what you got" on their first white label in '02 on jaylib's "the message".

the tracks featured on the rah digga release: "lessons of today" by primo and pete rocks "what they call me". again, both with instrumentals.

it's always good to see, that there are more records out there than expected. does anyone know how many copies of these were done?

1. ENJOY DA RIDE (PROD. JAY DEE)
2. SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT (PROD. JAY DEE)
3. THE HEIST FEAT. RAEKWON, GHOSTFACE & ROC MARCIANO (PROD. LARGE PRO)

please do not ask for instrumentals. thanks.
