concrete street

todays update is a dope ep from a group called concrete street from bristol. released in '99 on esoteric recordings. four excellent cuts on here. featured artists: kode1(productions), madcuts (turntablism) and principle (lyrics). this jazzy record was principle's oppurtunity to show the world his talent...he released four more records later on. i love sick dick with its rugged and jazzy vibe!

ugli kids

merry christmas to you folks!

ok, when i first heard mr. d originals "now u da man" i was like..man this shit is wack..how come so many people love this track? but after some time it grew on me and now i love it! similar stuff with the records i ripped today...when i first got them i didn't like the sound at all...shelved them a few months to dig 'em out again later and give the sound another try. that was the day i noticed i really liked the second release. i guess some of you tell me now this is not that dope or even wack...and i respect that..but i have to say i really feel the two tracks of the '98 release!

the group's name is ugli kids and they're from boston. i'm not sure if they had more vinyl releases besides these two..but i've seen two full length cd's on the net. i have a 12" from '97 and another one from '98. both released on ugli street records.

sandman and dirtman pt.II

as promised- here you get more stuff from the dirtman and sandman. i upped five dope tracks. except for the master ace one they're all freestyles. recording dates should be around '95-'97. my favorites are master ace, ra the rugged man and the crazy horse freestyle (i'm not sure what mc did this...either it is an mc crazy horse or lyrical asylum, which he names a few times). but check them all anyway!

here i have two mc's from baltimore called the annexx click (clique). featured artists are mc k-mack and female mc silouette. i have three 12"s on a label which was first called the concrete foundation and later on concrete & wiz foundation inc. and they date from '95 to '96. but there has to be another one as the first one from '95 i have has the catalog number [CF002] so i guess there must be a [CF001] as well. please let me know if anybody out there has it.

all three records are worth checkin' out...they have their own style somehow..."rude girlz" is my fav.

for all the heads

since i've featured one cut of this 12" on my '01 mixtape i thought i might put this one up as well. the combo from ny goes by the name of constellation...members: born talent, jay love and dj mugzy. you get three fresh tracks on this record...i like "water world" and "for all the heads" best.

this is born talents debut release. in '02 he dropped his first solo 12" called "braggin" which is dope as well. and right now he had just released his 2nd solo release "bad side" and is working on his full length debut. support the artist, great stuff.

legion of d.u.m.e.

i'm sure a lot of you already heard of a group called darc mind which consists of the producer x-ray (monster island czars) and emcee kev roc. but before they released their record on loud records (outside looking in), they were in a group called legion of d.u.m.e. who put out this 12" in '94.

you get two great joints "son's of sam" and the posse cut "darc mind inc." with red eye and funky jillz.

get the newly released darc mind lp (symptomatic of a greater ill) which has recordings from '95- '97 on it. great stuff.

long dayz

(picture courtesy of my homie hexenhammer)

when i started my indy career my man apostolos showed me a track called more emotion by an mc called paul ray...immediately i was obsessed with this 12" and tried to hunt it down..but it took me about four or five years to finally get ahold of a copy.

the record: straight outta chicago you get vocals by mc paul ray over beats by dj 33 1/3. the twelve inch features two joints "more emotion" b/w "long dayz" and was released in '97.

i still love these tracks like back then when i first heard them. i play long dayz more often lately..but they're both dope. thanks alex!

powermoves

since the creators lp featured one of my favorite uk mc's i thought i'd dedicate this post to him. i'm talking about m.c.m..when i first heard his voice i thought this was mister voodoo from the natural elements fam..but it was one of the members of the group caveman with a solo project.

here you get his '94 release. put out on a white label (i have seen a picture cover version as well). you'll find 3 tracks on it and they are pure butter! straight on up again is produced by the creators. i don't know who did the others. me personally, i kinda stick to the soul remix.

let me know how you like this!

nice 12inch by coolwhip & brittle aka cracker jax from '95. i'm pretty sure this is their debut single. the second release should be sly rhymes feat. rob swift of the x-ecoutioners put out around 97/98 which is ok. i'm not sure if they had more records afterwards. anyway, pretty slept on material here. unfortunately the mastering of this record could have been much better..but we like it raw, don't we!

break it down

ok, this is one of my all time favorites! i simply loved this piece of independence since i've first heard it on primo's ny reality check back in '97. it then took me about 4 years to finally get my first copy! and now after 9 years..i still feel the same way about this 12inch! break it down of course is the winner here..but the flipside is kinda slept on as well! they released another nice 12" in '98 called funk and dues which seems to be even tougher to get ahold of.
