j.a.b

nice little 12" from the same label, which brought you the three brass tacks records.

canadian mc j.a.b (pronounced j.b), member of the guilty crime posse (gcp), released this three-tracker at the age of 19 in '98. productions by james stang, of which i had never heard before. i don't know what he had to do with brass tacks besides the same label, but they get a shout out in "serious".

"The first G.C.P album “The Turf’s Hot” followed with JB and his best friend and recording partner Toba Chung as the main features. He also executive produced the album, funding all of the recording and pressing and securing a PMD deal through Nuff Entertainment. The album was sold nationwide at major retailers. The deal resulted in appearances and performances on MuchMusic, and the release of their first video for the single “Crime Hits.” Shortly after, everything was shelved when a number of the main members of G.C.P went to prison. During this time, JB. released a number of solo tracks. Television and film producers also came knocking and several of his recordings were featured in Canadian and US productions."

jb is still out there and even released a track called "fire in ya eyes" with the game, which is pretty cool too:

i like all three tracks on this 12". definitely a good 12" to own.

darcsyde pt.2

here we go again...

after my darcsyde post last april, i had to find out that there was another record from '98 i had never seen before. the 12", released on black hand entertainment, features two tracks. while you can forget about "what!", the b-side guards the cream right here! "pretender" somehow hit my taste since i first played it. i think this is one of their best tracks.

DARCSYDE 12" '98

1. WHAT!
2. PRETENDER

stezo

back in '88, epmd had an interesting background dancer on their strictly business tour...steve williams from connecticut. one year later, the same kid had his first record released. under the name stezo, he put out the classic "crazy noise" album with productions by the almighty paul c. anyway..since i am focused on mid 90ies records on this site, i wanted to present you three records he put out after a break of about four years. in the same manner as three times dope did, stezo appeared on four independent records in the mid 90ies as well after his early career.

STEZO 12" '94

1. BOP YA HEADZ
2. SHINING STAR

in '95/'96 stezo released an ep with "time to blow ya mind", "tension off the chest", "figure it out" & "where's the funk at". i don't have that one though.

STEZO 12" '96 (check out the typos on each side)

1. TIME TA BLOW YA MIND
2. TENSION OFF THE CHEST (FEAT. K-SOLO)

STEZO 12" '97

1. MR. S
2. FUNKY FOR YA

while the first two records were produced by chris lowe, the last one has productions by a guy called k-b.

after these records, stones throw released older stezo material- a 12" with tracks from '89-90 and a remix by koushik. also i think he had an appearance on the "i gotcha" album of his cousin dooley o.

hit me up should you have a spare copy of the ep or audio of "figure it out" and "where's the funk at".

oh...and..."bop ya headz", that's my joint!

the annexx click part II

remember last december's post about the annexx click from baltimore?! here's a piece of the concrete foundation puzzle, which was missing back then.

i'm talking about their probably first release [cf 001] from '95. the record is split up. this means that k-mack and silouette get one side each. both with two tracks. i think this is one of their best releases and the two k-mack joints are my fav's for sure.

who knows, they might have even more records out there. we've discovered five so far.

THE ANNEXX CLICK 12" '95

K-MACK SIDE:

1. DO OR DIE
2. IN BALTIMORE

SILOUETTE SIDE:

1. CAN U FEEL IT
2. BLESSIN' ME

creative [denmark]

as predicted and requested, crates of ag starts a new series today. on focus are artists/ groups from other countries than canada or the us. i thought a good way to beginn would be a post about denmarks mc creative.

i'm pretty sure his first appearance on the scene was the cd single called "the exclusive presentation" which came out in 1996. almost every track by creative had been produced by the copenhaniacs (jaybiz, dj shok and creative).

CREATIVE "THE EXCLUSIVE PRESENTATION" CD SINGLE '96

1. NATURAL
2. ONE ON ONE
3. EXPECT WRECK
4. THE HARD WAY

two of the four tracks from the cd were featured on his first vinyl 12" in '97. broken records europe put out "natural" & "one on one".

CREATIVE 12" '97

1. NATURAL
2. ONE ON ONE

one year later, the same collaboration, production- and labelwise, released another 12" called "the presentation". a three-tracker featuring promoe of the looptroop and hi-tech. unfortunately i traded my copy of this one away..but check out nap3platez, which had a post about that one (did i trade it to you ron?!).

in the year '99, creative strikes back with an exclusive danish promo. "with subdo the mic" he put out a personal classic of mine. on the flipside you can find the very very 1st pressing of promoe's "off the record", which had three more different pressings afterwards.

PROMOE / CREATIVE PROMO '99

1. OFF THE RECORD
2. SUBDO THE MIC

and last but not least, creative put out another 12" in '00. besides "creatively wise" featuring copywrite & camu tao and "networking" featuring freestyle of the arsonists and knox, you'll get an exclusive demo version of "continuosly "from '97.

CREATIVE 12" '00

1. CREATIVELY WISE (FEAT. COPYWRITE & CAMU TAO)
2. NETWORKING (FEAT. FREESTYLE)
3. CONTINOUSLY (FEAT. HI-TECH & PROMOE)

use the comments section in case i forgot anything. and if anyone has the mentioned cd from '96, i'm eager to hear the other 2 tracks on there!

enjoy!
